Madura Lemur

This endearing piece of folk art was collected and named the Red Madura Lemur by Thierry Durieux in Madura in the early 1980's. It measures approximately 38 cm from head to tail and stands at just under 15 cm tall. It appears to be teak or some other heavy hardwood, and it is painted in enamel. The carving is somewhat unskilled, but has the virtue of nave passion and joy of creating. The animal's face has a particularly endearing mischievous smile.
